Why am I paying for a scraper that runs locally?

Why does “scraping” cost credits if the scraper is running locally? Or am I missing something? My computer is literally unusable while it’s scraping, the same as with a puppeteer or beautiful soup + selenium script. I can just use a python script and it does the exact same thing.

I get paying credits for something that runs server side, e.g. I give it a scraping job and it was running on your server but it’s running on my laptop so what’s the price tag for? Why is there a price tag for “running in the background” but not for just regular scraping? Both are running locally anyway it seems.

Hey Sorin, welcome to the community! It’s great to have you here.

From your post, it sounds like you have some technical background, which is awesome.

However, for the majority of our users, creating a scraper on Python is not an easy task. With Bardeen, you can build a scraper quickly and easily, and have it running in the background of your computer. It shouldn’t interrupt your work.

I’m curious about your comment regarding your computer becoming unusable when running the scraper in the background. Could you provide more details on this? Could it be related with this Mac issue?

Also, I want to mention that all Bardeen plans come with a free trial, so you can try out the scraper before making any commitments.

And don’t worry, we’re currently working on supporting background scraping in the cloud, but it will take some time before it’s ready to demo. Thanks for your understanding!

Hi Ivan,

Thank you for the welcome

Yes, it is running on a Mac, starred the issue on chromium, thanks for linking.

In regards to the credit system I’m still confused. I’m a pro user, so I subscribed for the advanced features, however it is still running locally so why am I paying additional fees for running a script on my machine? I understand the logic of making a scraper that’s easy to use, I can absolutely get behind that and it’s why I paid the pro fee.

What are the credits for? What is the cost on your side that costs 1 credit per page? Shouldn’t the pro subscription cover it?

Hi Sorin

Yes, the credits will allow you to scrape data in the background for many pages. As of right now it can only happen when your browser is on.

The credits can be used for pro integrations like Clearbit or Snov, run AI automations and use premium triggers, among other features.

Take a look at our Pricing page for more details.
